PASTOR'S MESSAGE.....
I recently read an article in a national magazine which stated that there
is evidence of a growing desire in people for spiritual growth. It is ironic
that in a time when many churches have declining attendance, many
people seek to have a genuine relationship with a higher power that
allows them to develop in spiritual awareness and faith.
Often we hear people say: "I am a spiritual person. I am just not
religious." Perhaps this means that they choose to bypass the rituals,
routines, and imperfections of the church, or organized religion, and
seek the presence of God in a more personal or private way.
Whatever the result of this spiritual journey, the result of connection with
the spirit of God or Holy Spirit seems always to grant gifts that are meant
to be shared.
Galatians 5:22-23 states that the fruit of the Spirit's life in us is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and
self-control.
For those who have the gift of faith in Christ, spiritual growth means
living in the way of Jesus. This means seeking to be in community with
other believers. In this community of faith, we give and receive the gifts
of the spirit. We help to draw out our fellow believer's gifts for the world.
Spiritual growth for us is following Jesus, whose Spirit was open to
those at the margins of society - the least, the lost, and the last.
For those seeking the Holy Spirit as we know it, whether privately or
collectively - the journey will inevitably lead to a community of faith.
At Family Of Faith we regularly engage in the spiritual practices of Bible
reading, prayer, and sharing the gifts of the Spirit with each other and
the world.
Join us.
Worship services Sunday, 10:30am.
Peace,
Pastor Gene
